Hear Me Universe #25. Recycles

I value the role we all play in caring for our earth, and one way I feel we can contribute is recycling materials that have further use, once they’re transformed. In writing “recycles” on my love list, I wanted to attract a partner who shared this value; in simplest terms, I wanted someone committed to sorting plastic from paper.

Yet, there’s a metaphor here that feels even more true for me: when there’s something in my emotional possession that no longer serves me, let me recycle it. Let me literally send it away from me to be transformed into something useful and helpful to the world. I desired to share a life with someone who was willing to transform. Just as recycling products allows for regeneration and reuse, recycling emotions that no longer serve us begins a process of renewal.

In my layperson’s understanding of quantum physics, atoms are influenced by each other without being in physical contact with the other. There is an energy that is not seen, yet can be physically detected by the behavior of another atom. So, if I recycle what no longer serves me, I—in essence—recycle what no longer serves others.

Would "recycles" make your list of 100?

Hear Me Universe #24. Food Snob

I’m not yet a quarter through writing these posts about each of the 100 characteristics on my love list and so many themes have emerged which I hadn’t noticed quite so clearly before. Self-love is a key theme that you’ll see again and again in my love list, and I believe that when we love ourselves and show up every day practicing this self-love, we can offer the world more compassion, love, and kindness.

Food snob was my way of claiming that I desired to attract a partner that valued himself enough to be particular about what food he put in his body. Attracting someone into my life whose enjoyment of fresh, organic, whole foods was important to me as a shared experience, and a path to good health. Sharing my life with someone who is vibrant, energetic, and active is all connected to how we fuel our bodies.

What’s your favorite good-for-you food?

Hear Me Universe #23. Health & Fitness Conscious

Hear Me Universe
#23. fitness and health conscious

I named #23 to claim someone who loves this miraculous human body enough to care for it. It staggers me to know that our heart beats without our notice & we breathe with no effort. Our autonomic nervous system regulates the functions of our internal organs (our heart, stomach and intestines). We do not even notice when blood vessels change size or when our heart beats faster. Wow!

How could we NOT love this human vessel? How could we NOT care for this jewel?

I was open to so many ways a person chooses to achieve #23, and I knew from my own experience that the more I made my health a priority, the more I loved myself. Attracting someone who also practiced self-love felt important to me.

In what ways do you love your amazing human body?

Hear Me Universe #22. Shares

People who share know that we live in an abundant universe. There is plenty of everything for all. I’ve experienced this abundance over and over, and I wrote “shares” from the spirit of my belief.

The abundance in intangibles is as clear as the abundance of material items. So much ancient wisdom has counseled about cheerfully giving, sowing to reap, receiving back many fold. Sharing signals expansion and living from a place of expansion feels more beautiful to me.

What intangible gift can you share today?

Hear Me Universe #21. Dreams

Calling all dreamers.

Dreams are the first spark of creation. They emerge from our imagination and guide our actions in life. I’ve always been a dreamer and love living amongst dreamers. I loved teaching high school, because those halls held so many believers in dreams. While some will let life sweep their dreams away, I favor those who still dream after decades of beauty and blues, who believe that today is the day to start anything that is a spark of desire.

Dreamers give each other permission to dream, elevate each other’s ceilings, find light within the darker challenges, hold each other’s hands through the fear of action, and celebrate each joyous triumph.

Making my love list, some said, was dreaming. What I know is that dreams do come true.

Do you still dream?

Hear Me Universe #20. Listens

Listening describes an intentional activity. This characteristic on my list of 100 called out my desire to be heard with the purpose of understanding, reflecting back, asking questions—all which require engagement.

And, listening doesn’t mean solving something for me; there will be times I ask for input, help, opinions, insights. But listening is simply the purposeful act of leaning in and being present.
